Why It’s Important to Celebrate Pride
On June 28, 1970, the United States celebrated Christopher Street Liberation Day which was the first anniversary of the Stonewall riots. It was considered the first Gay Pride march in United States history. During this event, participants received very little resistance from spectators which was a far cry from the events of the riots that happened the year before.
Years later, countless nations around the world celebrate Pride Month as a way to honor sexualities and identities across the spectrum. In the year 2020, here are some reasons why we still celebrate pride today:
